About This Tool
The Whiteboard is a free, browser-based drawing and diagramming tool that gives you an infinite-feeling canvas for visual thinking. Whether you are brainstorming ideas, sketching a user interface wireframe, mapping out a process flow, diagramming a system architecture, or simply doodling to clarify your thoughts, the Whiteboard provides the essential drawing tools you need without the complexity and cost of professional design software.
The tool offers six primary drawing instruments. The pen tool enables freehand drawing for sketches, annotations, and handwritten notes. The line tool creates straight lines with a single click and drag. The arrow tool draws directional arrows for flowcharts and process diagrams. The rectangle and ellipse tools create geometric shapes for boxes, containers, and highlights. The text tool places editable labels anywhere on the canvas, which is essential for annotating diagrams and creating labeled wireframes.
Color and stroke options are accessible from the toolbar. Choose from eight preset colors — including black, red, blue, green, and purple — and three stroke widths (thin, medium, thick) to create visual hierarchy and distinction between different elements on your canvas. These options apply to all drawing tools, so your shapes, lines, and text can all be color-coded consistently.
Undo and redo support is unlimited within a session. Press Ctrl+Z to undo any action and Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo it. This safety net encourages experimentation — if a sketch does not turn out the way you envisioned, you can step back as many actions as needed without losing your entire canvas. The eraser tool provides another option for selective removal, letting you click on specific shapes or strokes to delete them individually.
The canvas auto-saves to localStorage as you draw, so your work persists between browser sessions. This means you can start a diagram, close the tab, and return the next day to find everything exactly as you left it. When you are ready to share or archive your work, the export function saves the canvas as a PNG image file that can be attached to emails, embedded in documents, or uploaded to collaboration platforms.
The Whiteboard is designed for speed and simplicity. It launches instantly with no loading screens, requires no account, and has no feature gates or premium tiers. Every tool and capability is available from the moment you open the page. This immediacy makes it ideal for the kind of rapid visual thinking that happens in meetings, during planning sessions, or when exploring an idea that is easier to draw than to describe in words.
Common use cases include: software developers sketching architecture diagrams or UI layouts before writing code, product managers mapping user flows and feature relationships, teachers and students creating visual explanations of complex concepts, project teams brainstorming ideas on a shared screen, and individuals capturing quick visual notes that would be cumbersome to type.
